Ada Rose Newport Thompson, 101, of Paducah, passed away Thursday at Superior Care Home.
Ada Rose was born in Paducah on March 16, 1912 to the late Wallace and Lena Rose Newport.After graduating from Reidland High School in 1930, she attended Murray State University until 1932 then began her teaching career at Farley Elementary.She married Terry Randolph Thomspon in 1938 and spent the next few years raising their five children.She resumed her education at Murray State in the late 50's and taught school at LaCenter Elementary and retired from Clark Elementary School.Overall, she taught school for over thirty years.She was a longtime member of Reidland United Methodist Church where she also taught Sunday School.She enjoyed ceramics and was a skilled seamstress, making clothing for her family and herself.She and her Terry enjoyed traveling over the United States in their Airstream trailer.
She is survived by five children, Melinda Breeden of Paducah, Nancy Rose Owen and husband Ted of South Fulton, TN, Larry Thompson and wife Betty of West Paducah, Cary Thompson and wife Sharla of West Paducah, and Gregory Thompson and wife Kathy of Morristown, TN; a sister, Earlene Lowe of Detroit, MI; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including Charlie Newport of Michigan.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Terry Randolph Thompson; four sisters, Mary Catherine Schnuck, Mildred Chambers, Ruth Youngblood, and Dorothy Brown; two brothers, Beater Newport and Dub Newport; a niece, Betty Jo Jeffords; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. David Garrett officiating.Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
