Bill Spears, 82, was called home by our Lord on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 2:20 p.m. at Baptist Health Paducah. Bill was a member and deacon at Lone Oak First Baptist Church, where he also served as a Sunday School Teacher, RA Leader and interim Minister of Music. Bill also served many years at numerous churches throughout Western Kentucky as Music Director. He was active in West Union Baptist Association until his illness and had a passion for mission work in Eastern Kentucky including The Haven of Rest. He loved singing and was a part of Barbershop singing as well as a member of numerous quartets. Bill was an avid golfer and a Kentucky Colonel. Bill retired from P.B. & S Chemical Company as plant manager and served as Vice-President of the company. He was a U. S. Army veteran having served during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years Delores Owen Spears, one daughter, Marlie Byrd and husband Richard of Lone Oak, KY; one son Bruce Spears and wife Amy of Brooklyn, NY; one sister, Cynthia Hartsock of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Leon Spears of Paducah; five grandchildren, Aimee Few, Jesse Byrd, Brian Spears, Josh Byrd and Eric Spears; and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death were one daughter, Robyn Spears Few, parents, Niles C. Spears Sr. and Maggie Laxton Spears, four brothers, N.C. Spears Jr, Joe Spears, Edgar Spears, Bailey Spears, and four sisters, Mildred Tucker, Bessie Leiker, Freida May Bambino and Becky Tucker.
Services will be held Saturday, February, 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Lone Oak First Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Summerlin and Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Lone Oak First Baptist Church.
