Charles L. Ashburn, 84, of Paducah, passed away on June 2, 2016 at Superior Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Charles was born on December 2, 1931 and grew up in Crossville, TN. Following high school graduation, he moved to East Peoria, IL where he met his future wife, Alice Taylor. They moved to Paducah in 1952 where he worked at Union Carbide/Martin Marietta for forty two years until his retirement. He loved to garden, fish, whittle birds and other small animals, and play with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters. He was a member of the Lone Oak United Methodist Church. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and Duke of Paducah.
He is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-five years, Alice J. Taylor Ashburn; his children, David L. Ashburn (Gail), Mark Ashburn (Susan Anderson), and Nancy Ashburn Stalion; his grandchildren, Dr. Joseph Ashburn (Heather), and Chrissy Love (Ross); great-grandchildren, Lily Ashburn, Hannah Love, Harper Love, and Hazel Love; brother, Billy E. Ashburn; and many nephews and nieces.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Demis Ashburn and Donna Elvina Hammons Ashburn.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Sunday at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Cavitt officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Garden.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
