Clara Elaine Armstrong, age 88 of Heath, TX, peacefully passed away in the early morning of January 1, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born December 29, 1928, in Americus, GA, to John L. and Abi McMahan. She was the youngest and last survivor of 11 children. The large family caravanned to Rutherford County, NC, that winter. She graduated from Rutherfordton-Spindale High School and worked at the Rutherford Drug Company of Rutherfordton.
Elaine met John D Armstrong Jr. when he returned from serving in World War II. They married October 5, 1947, then moved to Paducah, KY, in 1952, where Elaine kept busy raising her sons John D III and Ricky David while working at The Cardinal Shop located on Broadway. She was a member of the Baptist church and raised her sons in a Christian environment. She loved spending time with her extended family, the Millicans, the Morgans and the family in North and South Carolina.
Elaine is survived by her sons: John D Armstrong III and wife Linda of Heath, TX, and Ricky David Armstrong and wife Beverly of Tampa, FL; grandchildren: Kelly Armstrong and Jade Armstrong Crone, both of Rockwall, TX, and Ian Armstrong of Coppell, TX; great grandchildren: Kenyon Harper, Kendal Beheler Lawrence, Trystan Crone, Mikayla Crone, Keith Hunt and Rylee Revo, all of the Rockwall, TX, area and Kyler Lockey of Hamlet, NC; and great- great grandchild: Avery Rose Lawrence.
Graveside services will be held 10:00am, Wednesday, January 4, 2017, in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6965 Old US Highway 45 South, Paducah, KY.
