Cloyd Barriger

Cloyd Perry Barriger, age 91, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at 1:17 a.m.

Cloyd was born March 17, 1922, in Lowes, Kentucky, to William "Cute" and Jewell Barriger. He graduated from Lowes High School in 1940 and attended Draughon's Business College.

He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from October 15, 1942, until October 13, 1945. Ranked as Technical Sergeant, he was an engineer and aerial gunner of a B-17 bomber crew, and flew 35 bombing missions over Germany during World War II.

He retired as Vice President and Trust officer of Paducah Bank and Trust, after 39 years of employment. He was employed from the first day the bank opened, January 24, 1948, until his retirement on March 31, 1987. He served on the committee that organized and started Computer Services, Inc. and was a member of the CSI Board of Directors from the day of its inception in 1965 until 1987.

A member of Lone Oak Church of Christ since 1950, he served as elder, class teacher and participant/leader of various church activities. For 12 years he was a director and treasurer of Western Kentucky Youth Camp.

A charter member of the Paducah Optimist Club, after its formation in 1961, he served as Director and Secretary-Treasurer. He also served on the Paducah-McCracken County Chamber of Commerce Board and the board for the McCracken County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Cloyd enjoyed golf at Rolling Hills Country Club and was a fan of University of Kentucky Basketball.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Johnson Barriger of Lexington, Kentucky; his daughters, Jennie Doane and husband Michael of Lexington, Kentucky, and Lisa Dreher and husband Scott of Nashville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, Stacey Markahn and Justin Dreher; his great-grandchildren, Dominick Daniel Markahn, Devon Lee Markahn, Dion Nicholas Caruthers, Bradley Michael Doane and Maleia Lynn Dreher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Everett Barriger and Jewell Burchard Barriger; and his sister, Ruble Pierce.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Lone Oak Church of Christ with Paul Wingfield officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2013, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 11 a.m. until service time at Lone Oak Church of Christ.
