Doris Mae Williams Elder, 89, of Paducah, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at Mills Health and Rehabilitation Center in Mayfield.
Doris was born in Corinth, Miss., on October 16, 1924 to the late Herman Buford Williams and Velma Maroney Williams. She was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School class. Known as a caregiver to everybody, Doris was an active volunteer and room mother when her children were in school and was also a babysitter. For many years, she was a member of Magnolia Homemaker's Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Jerry Poole and husband Tom of Gardner, Ill., Phyllis Pember and husband Carl of Wingo and Missy Hamm and husband Joey of West Paducah; six grandchildren, Rob (Monica) Poole of Blackstone, Ill., Tracy (Kurt) Kociss of Gardner, Ill., Kayla Pember of Wingo, Daniel Pember of Louisville, Bailey Hamm of West Paducah, and Paxton Hamm of West Paducah; three great-grandchildren, Kal Kociss, Kade Kociss and Faith Pember; a sister, Bobbie Jean (Gene) Johnson of Melrose Park, Ill.; five nieces; and two nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Joe Elder; a brother, Johnny Buford Williams; a sister, Elaine Shoemaker; and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Jamie Broome officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
