Geneva Hargrove

March 15, 1922 — October 8, 2016

Geneva Rust Cooper Hargrove, age 94, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2016 at the Metropolis Nursing & Rehab in Metropolis IL.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross 2601 North Ave Metropolis, IL, with Rev. Trad York officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Paducah, KY. Her Dad was a carpenter and he and other members of his family helped, to build the current church building. She was an LPN, retired from the John J Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, MO. She was a member of the Grandin, MO, Eastern Star Lodge 519, Paducah Chapter DAR, The Graves County KY Genealogy Society and many other Genealogy Societies.

She was a lifelong lover of the outdoors. Anytime the family spent time on the rivers or lakes, she always took a trash bag and picked up trash left behind by others. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening as long as she was able. Her passion for many years was Genealogy Research.

She is survived by two daughters, Judith Jones and Virginia Walters (Jim) and three sons, Michael Cooper (Margie), Steven Cooper (Johanna), and Christopher Cooper (Jill); 16 Grandchildren, Will Jones (Debra), Timothy Cooper, Cathleen Cooper, James Walters III (Lorie), Russell Walters (Yukako), Brett Walters and fiancé, Sarah Wright, Michael Cooper Jr, Mark Cooper, Cindy Smith (Paul), Brent Cooper (Johanna), Beth Cooper, Matthew Cooper, Ethan Cooper, Alex Taylor, Kristen Franklin (Nick), and Molly Cooper; 21Great Grandchildren, Aimee and Will Jones, Cathryn,Thomas and Caryn Cooper, Max and Blake Stamm, Jimmy Walters IV, Kyle, Haiji and Noel Walters, Kaley and Kyler Owens, Alecia Cooper, Kayla, Taylor and Jordan Chassaniol, Gavin Smith, Brad Williams, Zoe and Kaeli Cooper.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Roy Thomas Cooper Sr, and second husband, Oren Hargrove; three sons, Roy Cooper Jr, Gerald and Joseph Cooper; one granddaughter, Christine Cooper; her parents, Clarence and Vonnie (Thurston) Rust; one sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Cross on Friday, October 14.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
