George Murphy, age 67, of Lone Oak passed away Monday at his residence.
George was a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church, graduate of Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science and Master Degree in music education; retired from Lone Oak High School as vocal music instructor; and served as interim music director at Mid-Continent College, Southeast Missouri State, as well at many churches in the Paducah area. George judged district and state music events for many years after his retirement. During his education career he coordinated and made several trips to Europe and cities in the United States with students and parents. He was a member of McCracken County retired teachers and Kentucky retired teachers association.
Services will be held Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m. at Lone Oak First Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Summerlin officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner and Orr Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. on Friday at the Lone Oak First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Wallace Murphy and wife Verlaine, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four nephews, James Murphy and wife Michelle, Robert Murphy and wife Cindy, Michael Murphy and wife Linda, and David Murphy; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Jennings Murphy and Gertrude Clarkie Hatcher Murphy.
