Irvin S. Nance, age 96, of Reidland, KY passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 6:15 p.m. at his residence.
Mr. Nance was born on March 20, 1918 in McCracken County to the late Lester Lee and Beulah Edwards Nance. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was long time member of the American Legion. He attended Reidland High School and was captain of the basketball team and the salutatorian of his 1936 class. He worked for the SS Kresge Co/Kmart Corporation for 42 years and managed stores in LaPorte, IN, Toledo, OH, and Plymouth, Southfield, Melvindale, Flint, and Saginaw, MI as well as Bradenton, FL. Irvin and Margaret returned to Paducah in 1994 and lived near Reidland. They never forgot their roots and although they lived away for over 50 years, they always thought of Paducah as home.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Edna Margaret (Hovekamp) Nance, his brother, Stuart Nance and two sisters, Mary Schaefer and Martha Sue Brooks.
Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Dalto and husband Ray of Bradenton, FL and three sons, James I. Nance and wife, Arlene of Murray, KY, John E. Nance and wife, Katy of Nampa, ID and Jeffery Nance and wife, Lezlie of Bradenton, FL. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Irvin Nance will be held Friday, August 29, 2014 at 12:00 Noon at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Brian Roby officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites. The Nance family will receive friends on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Prayers beginning at 7:30 p.m.
