James Edmond "Jimmy" Denton, a beloved member of the Paducah community, passed away at Baptist Health Paducah on Monday, February 19, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Detroit, MI, on March 22, 1948, to the late William "Bill" and Ella Dee Denton. Jimmy led a remarkable life filled with dedication, service and passion. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and completed two tours of combat in Vietnam. He was honored with various medals and awards, including the Navy Seabee Quilt of Valor for his service. Jimmy was a Certified Master Mechanic and owned and operated Denton’s Garage for over 50 years serving the automotive needs of citizens and businesses in Downtown Paducah.

Outside of work, Jimmy immersed himself in various hobbies and interests. He found joy in coaching youth baseball and softball teams, refurbishing guns, golfing, singing in the choir at his church, and supporting the University of Kentucky basketball team as a fervent fan. His vibrant personality and diverse talents touched the lives of many. A pillar of Southland Baptist Temple for over 40 years, Jimmy's faith was an integral part of his identity. He dedicated himself to his church community and found solace in his spiritual beliefs. Among his proudest accomplishments were his roles on the board of directors of the Lone Oak Youth Baseball and Softball Association and teaching trade classes at WKCTC.

Jimmy is survived by his loving bride of 50 years, Sheila Denton of Paducah; his daughter Renee McDermott (Shawn) of Paducah; his son Justin Denton (Shelley) of Lexington, KY; sister Bonnie Jean Denton of Paducah; two grandchildren, Banks Denton and Kaylee Wilson.

Visitation will take place at Southland Baptist Temple from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, February 23, 2024, and from 12:00pm until 1:00pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 24, at 1:00pm also at the church with Jonathan Goodman officiating. Jimmy will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens following the service.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was also preceded in death by his brother, Marshall Denton; his stepmother, Fannie Denton; and his beloved mother-in-law, Mildred “Ninnie” Hendon.

Jimmy will always be remembered for his kind heart, terrible jokes and unwavering faith that has had a profound impact on the Paducah community.  May he rest in peace knowing that his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Southland Baptist Temple's "The Gift" at 927 Yarbro Ln., Paducah, KY  42003, or the American Cancer Society, 2000 Charlotte Ave, Nashville, TN 37203.
