Joy Faye Cooper, 80, passed away October 3, 2014, in Bartlett, Tenn.
She was a retired school teacher of 53 years, teaching at Rives High, Greenfield High, Clarksville Northeast High and Bartlett High, all in Tennessee. She also taught at Lone Oak High in Paducah, Kentucky. In 2000, she received the Crystal Apple Teacher Award, given by WREC Radio, to outstanding Metro Memphis educators.
Joy was preceded in death by her spouse, Rev. James T. Cooper; and parents, Jim and Lucy Ellison. She leaves to cherish her memories one son, James Michael Cooper (Cona) of Bartlett, Tenn.; one brother, Harry M. Ellison of Union City, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Matthew Boyd Cooper of Bartlett, Tenn., Jennifer Cooper Tanner (Christopher) of Spring Hill, Tenn., James Ivan Cooper of Cordova, Tenn., and Michael Dmitriy Cooper of Bartlett, Tenn.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Family Funeral Care in Memphis with graveside service to be held Monday at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Paducah, Ky.
