Lucille Harris Buchanan, 88, of Paducah died at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday at Western Baptist Hospital.
Her passion for music led her, at the age of 13, to become the pianist for Lone Oak Baptist Church for 13 years from 1932 until 1946. In 1954, she joined Twelve Oaks Baptist Church and severed as organist and pianist for 42 years until her retirement in 1996. She had a devoted love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Donald and wife Nancy Buchanan of Manassas, Va., and Larry R. Buchanan of Paducah; two sisters, Pauline Lawson and Avis Parker, both of El Paso, Texas; four grandchildren, Todd and wife Tabitha Buchanan of Mechanicsville, Va., Tracie and husband Bob Conner of Stafford, Va., Christy and husband Steve Slimp of Hickory, and Ashley and husband Willie Thompson of Cunningham; and our great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Kamron Slimp, Kyler Thompson, and Jenna Buchanan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy C. Buchanan, and her parents, Rollie L. Harris and Lillian Holloway Harris.
Funeral services for Lucille Harris Buchanan will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Lewis Brinker and the Rev. Denzel Dukes officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
