Madison Leek Jr

January 22, 1924 — January 12, 2015

Madison "Matt" Martin Leek Jr. was born January 22, 1924 and went home to be with Jesus on January 12, 2015, at 90 years old.
Matt lived in Paducah all his life. He rode his bicycle in the 1937 flood waters and when they went to bed the water was coming through the floor. The next morning was his birthday and the water was about 6 inches deep. They were soon rescued by some church members in a john boat.
Matt learned to be a mechanic, body man, painter, and welder. He went to Tilghman School, but quit in 10th grade. When he was 17, he volunteered into the Army Air Corps for World War II. He served in New Caledonia and Australia. He was an airplane mechanic and worked on air craft sheet metal. He served from December 15, 1942 to November 20, 1945. After the war, he returned to his old job as an auto mechanic. He was a member of the Bellview Baptist Church.
Matt met Wilma Louise Sanderson through a friend and after a short courtship, they married on September 14, 1946. They settled on Old Mayfield Road and had two children, Jerry Martin and Linda Kay. Jerry had two daughters, Gerrie Ann and Stephanie Shae. Linda had one daughter, Crystal Lee. Matt loved his girls.
In 1960, he began working at Air Products Chemical Plant where he worked for 28 years. He always said it was the best job of his life. He was a tinkerer and could fix anything in his garage. He saved everything because you might just use it someday. He help so many others with his hands. He love to be busy camping, fishing, and traveling with his family and friends. He was a wonderful dad, papa, and friend. He loved to laugh and play with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He was the foundation of our family and created a wonderful legacy for us to carry on.

Matt is survived by his daughter, Linda Kay Hatley of Paducah, KY; sister, Bernie Walls of Paducah, KY; three grandchildren, Crystal Jones of Mayfield, KY, Gerrie Ann Leek of Newport News, VA and Shae Leek Gugle of West Frankfort, IL; seven great grandchildren, Katelyn, Natalie, Zachary, Anna, Nathaniel, Madison, Jeffery and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Louise Sanderson Leek; Son, Jerry Martin Leek and a brother, Larry Leek. His parents were Madison M. Leek, Sr. and Beulah Bruer Leek.
