Phyllis Jean Alvey, age 78, of Paducah, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at her residence.
Phyllis was born on October 14, 1940 to the late Hobart and Emma Coleman Riley. She was a member of West End Baptist Church for over 70 years where she sang in the choir and was Children's director. She was also instrumental in leading Vacation Bible School for West End Baptist Church, she taught both children and adult Sunday School classes, and helped in cooking and preparing Wednesday night meals for the church. Phyllis retired from the American Quilt Society where she was a secretary. She was an avid UK Basketball fan, she loved to cook and travel, but she loved her grandchildren the most. Phyllis will be remembered by those she loved most as being someone who everyone liked, was warm and friendly, was always laughing and smiling and a loving and compassionate mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Alvey is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ernest Alvey; her two daughters, Lisa Spillman and husband, Mark of Wingo, KY and Tracey Beal and husband, Andy of Brentwood, TN; one brother, Jerry Dean Riley and wife, Linda Faye of Reidland; and her three grandchildren, Makayla Spillman, Laurel Beal and Riley Beal.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. DeWayne Chadwick and Rev. Andy Beal officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
