Richard Cates

July 13, 1940 — August 13, 2017

David Cates, 77, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Lourdes Hospital. He was born in Washington, D.C.. David was a Master Electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 26. He was a member of Heartland Worship Center, National Rifle Association and served in the United States Air Force. David enjoyed leatherworking and hunting but his greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Somers Cates; daughters, Lisa Dawn Cates and Eve Marie Cates both of Paducah, Kentucky; son, Stephen David Cates and wife Stacey of Paducah, Kentucky; brother, Donald Gregory Cates and wife Barbara of North Potomac, MD; grandchildren, Tyler Bishop Reed age 15, Sydney Grace Reed age 10 and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by three brothers, Lorance Bruce Cates, Jr., Wayne Douglas Cates and James Roger Cates. His parents were Lorance Bruce Cates, Sr. and Beatrice Jesse Potter Cates.

Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Paducah with Pastor Josiah Henry and Rev. Jamie Broome officiating. Private family burial will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the funeral home.

Expresssions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 3140 Parisa Drive, Paducah, Kentucky 42003 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 6100 Dutchmanns Lane, Suite 401, Louisville, Kentucky 40205.
