Richard A. Mitchell, 83, of Paducah, died Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home.
Richard was born in Paducah on November 28, 1933 to William and Maidie Mitchell. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad for twelve years before beginning long-term employment as a boilermaker, welder and supervisor at TVA. After retirement, he taught welding at Paducah Tilghman and WKCTC. Richard was a member of Boilermakers Local #40 and Grahamville Masonic Lodge #707. He was a longtime member and deacon of Oaklawn Baptist Church. He went on three mission trips with the church-Mexico, Brazil and Spain. Most recently, he was a member of Bellview Baptist Church. He enjoyed travel, camping and golf.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nell Young Mitchell; children, Rick Mitchell, Jr. and wife Gina of Paducah; Debbie Cearlock and husband Lundy of Paducah, and Michael D. Mitchell and wife Brenda of Benton, KY; six grandchildren, Wendy Boyken, Brad Reid, Daniel Reid, Joshua Mitchell, Zachary Mitchell, Elissa Michelle Wines-Mitchell; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Craig, Kimberly Craig, Mitchell Reid, Makayla Reid, Jackson Reid, Skylar Mitchell, and Hunter Mitchell; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Bulson and Teddy Bulson; and two step-great-grandchildren, Julie Boyken and Lydia Lopez.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Katherine Walker, James Mitchell, Charles Mitchell and Maxie Mitchell; and son-in-law, Randall Reid.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Tommy Williams and Rev. Mike Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation, with Boilermakers rites, will be held Friday evening from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
