Robert " R.L./Bobby " Martin, 74, of Paducah, died Tuesday September 2, 2014 at Baptist Health Paducah following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Martin was born June 15, 1940. He graduated in the PTHS class of 1958. He served in the security division of the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1962. He was a member of the Paducah Jaycees. Mr. Martin held a machinist apprenticeship certificate from ICRR and worked for the railroad six years before going to work for Union Carbide. He retired from Martin Marietta in 1999 following 30 years of service. He was a long time member of Olivet Baptist Church where he oversaw the sound system for services and special events. He assisted in establishing and running the security program at Olivet 4 Kids childcare ministry.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry Miller Martin of Paducah; one son, Damon Martin and wife Kristi of Brookport IL; one daughter, Dana Martin Collins and husband Steven of Paducah; one sister, Mary Martin Walters of Marion, IL; six grandchildren, Kaylor Martin and Katie Martin , both of Brookport, IL; William Collins, Maxson Collins, Stevie Collins, and Elizabeth Collins, all of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Allen and Mary Frank Ely Martin.
Friends may offer condolences to the family on Friday, September, 5, 2014 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September, 6, 2014 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Keith Culp and Rev. Skip Parsons officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
