Sylvia Fifer

Sylvia Marie Burgess Fifer, 86, of Paducah, died Tuesday at 4:38 am at New Haven Assisted Living of Paducah.

A native of Obion, TN, Sylvia was born August 4, 1928 to the late Lee and Myrtle Bishop. She enjoyed a 30-year career in nursing, working in Columbus, OH and retiring from Lourdes Hospital. She was a member of Heartland Worship Center. Sylvia and her late husband, Jack, enjoyed spending time at the lake camping and fishing. She loved to cook for her family and was known for her delicious fried chicken and dumplins.

The family would like to thank the staff of New Haven Assisted Living for the care and compassion shown to them and Mrs. Fifer during her stay.

She is survived by two sons, Steve Burgess and wife Shirley of Kirksey, KY and Richard Burgess and wife Vicki of West Paducah; step son, Jack Fifer and wife Terry of Columbus, OH; sister, Nell Drake of Monroe, NY; son-in-law, Walter Bridges of Paducah; eight grandchildren, Randy Bridges, Tony Bridges, Kari Gibbs, Darryl Bridges, Mendy Burgess, Ricky Burgess, Crista Jennings, and Bryan Burgess; three step grandchildren, Chris Fifer, Kim Fifer, and Kasey Fifer; nineteen great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roscoe Lee Burgess; her second husband, Jack Eugene Fifer; two daughters, Linda Bridges and infant, Marie Burgess; great grandson, Seth Jennings; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Johnny Sams officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-8pm at the funeral home.
