Reba Jones, our beloved Auntie, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 4, 2015 at the age of 100. She passed away at 9:10am at Parkview Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. She was very caring and loving, and deeply devoted to her family. She was a member of Bellview Baptist Church.
Reba was the widow of G.B. Jones and together they owned and operated the Big Burley Mart, a tobacco warehouse that was located on Hinkleville Road for many years. They were also successful in the tobacco markets in North Carolina and Florida.
She was born to Avery Ernest Courtney and Grace Sullivan Courtney on August 3, 1915 in Beulah, KY. Her mother passed away in 1917 and her father later married Radie Wooley Courtney, the only mother she would ever know.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Eunice Cooley, of Oneonta, AL; brothers, Ernest, Elvon, Farris and James Courtney; and one sister, Charlene Riley, all of Paducah. An infant sister, Effie Radie Courtney, and a niece, Tammy Courtney, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Jones is survived by step-daughter, Virginia Glenn of Greenville, N.C.; step-son-in-law, Eldon Cooley of Oneonta, AL; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Green of Knoxville, TN, Jerome Cooley of Oneonta, AL, Lucile Hendricks of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Battle Emory of Greenville, NC; step-great granddaughter, Allison Boman of Winston-Salem, NC; sister-in-law, Alice Courtney; nephews, Mike Ferguson of Horn Lake, MS, Larry Courtney, Kevin Courtney; and nieces, Jane Williams, Nancy Deweese, and Susan McClure, all of Paducah. She is also survived by ten great-nieces and nephews and ten great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Mike Nolen officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Garden. Visitation will begin at 10am Satuday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Bellview Baptist Church, 4875 Old Mayfield Road, Paducah, KY 42003.
