Walter Borgerding

August 28, 1920 — December 12, 2014

LeRoy Borgerding, 94, of Paducah formerly of Louisville KY, passed away at 11:15 pm on December 12, 2014 at Superior Care Home.

Mr. Borgerding was a retired General Manager for Paducah Power System. LeRoy graduated from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville in 1939. He attended Purdue University where he studied electrical engineering. He served in the United States Navy in World War II where he was an electricians mate on a Mine Sweeper (U.S. Salem) in the Pacific. After an honorable discharge from the Navy he studied at the Chicago Institute.

While in Chicago he met Margery, whom he married in 1949 in La Grange, Illinois. They moved to Paducah where he initially worked for Kentucky Utilities as a gas line right-of-way purchaser. As an electrical engineer he designed several transmission lines throughout the regional area. He switched to Paducah Power System and worked his way to General manager. He was a member of the Rotary Club (served as President), Kiwanis Club, and Toastmasters.

LeRoy and Margery were active in the First Christian Church where they both served as deacons and elders.

His life-long passion was boating. He owned his first boat at the age of 16 at Harrods Creek in Louisville and sold his last boat in his late 80s. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, boating on Kentucky Lake. He was always willing to assist other boaters with questions on boating electronics. He was known for his collection of air horns and train whistles and the sound of the air horns could be heard echoing across the lake. He was a member and served as a Commander of the U.S. Power Squadron, Kentucky Lake Division, and was recently honored with a plaque for his 50 years of service to the organization.

He is survived by his three daughters, Barbara Lynn Jaquith and husband Francis T. of Louisville, KY, Janet Lee Murphy and husband Timothy Trueblood of Perth, Australia, Tracey Diane Metcalf and husband Rodney of Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Margery Eunice Breese Borgerding; one daughter, Margery Ann Borgia; and his sister Vivian VanOverbeke. His parents were Walter Leonard Borgerding and Rose Hertlendy Borgerding.
